The Natural Palette

If you look closely, you'll discover most paintings are composed mostly of neutrals - subtle tones we often call browns or grays. Like actors in a supporting role, these low-chroma hues play alongside starring colors.
The somber, yet glowing paintings of the Dutch masters and the loosely painted watercolors of artists like Winslow Homer underscore the importance of these beautiful, muted hues. Their presence in a painting convey mood while focusing attention on nearby color accents.
In this unique workshop, we will be working from a 20-color palette which features colors that originate directly from the earth. Discover the joys of painting with natural pigments like Amethyst, Rhodonite and Black Tourmaline, along with vibrant Quinacridones and other carfully chosen artist-quality paints.
At the culmination of this ten-week workshop, participants will emerge with their own personal reference workbook - an invaluable resource for painting in the studio or on location.
*Some experience in watercolor, particularly color mixing, is highly recommended.
